It started with diverticulitis. The flares, the fear, the feeling that my own body had turned on me. That road led to a colon resection, then a hernia repair, and then the necrotizing MRSA infection that followed it. Seven debridement surgeries to survive that one alone. Nine surgeries in all, and years of learning to trust my body again.
Then the diverticulitis came back. Nobody had told me it could. What I was handed was another round of antibiotics, and then another, a cycle with no end in sight. I knew antibiotics weren't the answer to a problem that kept returning. So I turned to functional medicine, and that's what finally broke the cycle.
